Dwayne Matthew Kruse, age 82, of Brookings, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at the Brookings Hospital due to complications of a fall. Due to the current pandemic, a private family graveside will be held Friday, April 17 th at Fairview Cemetery in White, SD. Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dwayne was born on October 17, 1937, to Matthew and Anna (Fischer) Kruse in Oak Township, South Dakota. Dwayne spent much of his youth on a farm north of White, South Dakota, and attended school in Astoria, where he won many medals and trophies through the Astoria High School track and field program.
Dwayne first saw the love of his life when she was 12 years old, and married her when she was 17. Dwayne and Eloise (Hicks) Kruse were married on May 30, 1958 at the First Baptist Church of White, and had celebrated nearly 62 years of marriage together.
From 1958 to 1959, Dwayne worked in building construction. From 1959 until 1998, he worked for the City of Brookings as a water and waste water supervisor until his retirement in January of 1998. He was employed by the City of Brookings for a total of 39 years and 4 months.
Faith was an important part of Dwayne's journey through life. Dwayne accepted Christ as his Savior and had a close relationship with the Lord. We know he has an eternal home in Heaven because of his complete faith and trust in Christ's sacrificial death on the cross and resurrection from the dead, on his behalf. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16. Dwayne was one of the founders and a charter member of Bible Baptist Church in Brookings, South Dakota. Throughout the years, he served in various capacities including Deacon and visitation. Dwayne will always be remembered as a great prayer warrior.
Throughout his life, Dwayne enjoyed carpentry, and even assisted in building Bible Baptist Church's first building, as well as the home that he and his family enjoyed for over 52 years on First Street. Dwayne was a faithful, devoted, and dedicated husband, father, church member, and employee.
Dwayne is survived by his beloved wife, Eloise Kruse; son, Allen Kruse, of Brookings; daughter, Coral (Doug) DeFord, of Indianola, IA; son-in-law, Tim Hallada, of Brooklyn Park, MN; sister-in-law, Velda (Kruse) Spanek, of Springfield, MO; two sisters: Ramona Kruse, of Lincoln, NE, and Verna (David) Hicks, of White, SD; brother, Ron (Camille) Kruse, of Brookings; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Robert Dwayne; daughter, Crystal Hallada; sister, Kathryn (Eugene) Tuttle; brother Merwyne Kruse; and sister-in-law Esther Kruse.
