Duane A. Santema, age 74, of Brookings, formerly of Volga, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 25, 2009, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, preceded by interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Monday, March 16, 2009, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.

Duane Albert Santema was born August 26, 1934, on the family farm near Volga, South Dakota, to Albert and Harriet M. (Dybdahl) Santema. He attended country school near Volga and then farmed with his family.

Duane was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings on television, and having coffee with his friends.

Survivors include his brother, Richard (Ronda) Santema, of Mesa, Arizona; a sister-in-law, Deanna Santema, of Brookings; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Ray.
