Obituary

Duane Everrett, 83, of Lincoln, passed away October 26, 2014. He was born August 10, 1931 in Lincoln, NE to Herbert G. and Anna (Maxon) Everrett. Duane's professional career was dedicated to promoting educational opportunities in the Midwest and international communities. He started his career as a vocational agricultural teacher in Bartlett, NE. He went on to be a superintendent of schools in Nehawka and Wilbur, NE. He achieved a doctorate of education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Duane was a professor of education, serving both as the head of the department and the acting dean at South Dakota State University. He was chosen leader of an SDSU team that worked for Aid to International Development to improve the agricultural college in Botswana. Duane was director of International programs at SDSU and continued his international work through the state department in Washington, D.C. Duane returned to his home town of Lincoln to work at Mid America International Agricultural Consortium. He capped his career by working for the University of Nebraska to help create on line education programs for doctoral candidates. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club International, the Farmhouse Fraternity, Phi Delta Kappa, and the United Methodist church, serving in multiple leadership roles in support the organizations. Family members include his wife, Jan Streily-Everrett; daughter, Jeanne (Mark) Stratton, Brookings, SD; son, Jim (Vicki) Everrett, Port Angeles, WA; step children, Janice Streily, Denver, CO, Elaine Streily, Lincoln, NE, Rick (Mary) Streily, Buena Vista, CO; grandchildren, Brian Delve, Marty Showen, Ashley Lewis, Sarah Stratton-Babb (Derek), Aimee Everrett, Rob Everrett, Daniel Stratton; great grandchildren, Lauren Kendrick-Showen, Dylan Delve, Kennedy Babb; sister, Pat Portsche, Olathe, KS; sister and brother-in-laws; Mary Everrett, Bob and Nancy Mook, Mel and Glema King, Dale and Juanita King; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wives, Marilyn L (Mook) Everrett and Betty (Shay) Everrett; and brother, Gary. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Eidsness Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorials in lieu of flowers to First United Methodist Church, American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
