Douglas C. Dude Ulvestad, age 41, of Brookings, died Friday, October 19, 2007, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce with Pastor Wayne Hjermstad officiating. Interment will be in the St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bruce. Visitations will be from 4-8 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Douglas Chris Ulvestad was born February 8, 1966, at Brookings, South Dakota, to Merle C. and Audrey R. (Skovlund) Ulvestad. During high school he worked for Adee Honey Farms in Bruce. He graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1984 and the Lake Area Vocational Technical School Architecture and Engineering Drafting Program in Watertown in 1989. He completed his internship at Banner and Associates in Brookings and then began working for Prest Rack Inc. until 1991 when he began his employment as an engineering technician/building inspector with the City of Brookings. He retired from the City in August 2007 when he entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. Dude was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce. He enjoyed fishing, camping, running, biking, snowmobiling, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends, including his basset hound, Bowser. Survivors include his mother, Audrey Ulvestad, of Bruce; a brother, Arlyn (Holly) Ulvestad, of Brookings; a sister, Julie (Jim) Hanson, of Madison, South Dakota; a niece, Shelby; nephews, Jeremy, Jesse (Erin), and Chase; a special friend, Jody Carpenter, of Brookings; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his basset hound, Bowser. He was preceded in death by his father, Merle, and his grandparents.
