Douglas L. Apland, age 67, died Sunday, May 20, 2007, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 24, 2007, at the Brookings United Church of Christ, with interment at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Oldham, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Home. Douglas moved to the Redfield Training Center in June 1948 and then to ADVANCE at Brookings in December 2006. He loved music, eating ice cream, and going for outings. Survivors include a brother, Milo (Kathy) Apland, of Brookings; a niece, Sheila (Gary) Ottenbacher, of Aberdeen, South Dakota; a nephew, Stuart (Melissa) Apland, of Brookings; a great-nephew, William Ottenbacher; an uncle, James (Wilma) Abrahamson, of DeSmet; two aunts, Orpha Abrahamson of Howard and Viola Apland of Sioux Falls; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, David, on January 10, 2007.
