Douglas Lee IntVeld was born in Volga on October 26, 1951. He was the fourth of ten children born to Marten and Mag (Lengkeek) IntVeld. Doug passed away peacefully at the Mayo Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN, on January 22, 2018.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings with burial to follow in the Toronto Cemetery. Visitations will be Friday, January 26, 2018, from 5:30-7:30 PM, also at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Doug went to a local country school and graduated from Estelline High school in 1969. He was baptized and made his Profession of Faith at the Volga Christian Reformed Church. Doug enjoyed playing fast pitch softball with the Volga team. He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of ten years old, but he never let it slow him down or get in his way. As a kid, he would get up early and milk cows before school, which gave him the tools he would need for the rest of his life.
After high school, Doug attended Lake Area Vocational Technical Institute where he studied mechanics.
He was united in marriage on March 3, 1973, to the love of his life, Shirley Texley in Toronto, SD at the Leganger Lutheran Church. They were married for forty-five love filled years.
Doug worked at several farms in a variety of locations before moving to the Texley family farm west of Toronto, SD, where he started a dairy in 1977. He served as a deacon at the Bemis Christian Reformed Church. Doug worked as a dairy farmer for seventeen years before he sold the cows and began the next chapter of his life.
Doug then took training to become a welder. He began working at Twin City Fan in Brookings, SD, in January of 1994. He continued working until he was hospitalized. During his time, there he came to be known as Grandpa to many of his co-workers in the wheel department.
Though he had a variety of illnesses throughout his life, Doug never let it stop him from going to work or enjoying time with his family. The family moved to White to be closer to where they worked in 1997.
Doug was a lifelong Vikings fan who never missed an opportunity to watch a game. He loved reading, fishing, and hunting gophers. Doug also enjoyed playing pinochle and horseshoes and putting puzzles together. He took pleasure in guiding his children and grandchildren through school. One of his favorite activities was playing catch and tug of war with his furry friend, Shadow.
He is survived by: siblings, Dr. Joanne IntVeld, Dave (Sue) IntVeld, Jan (Micheal) Sutherlin, Judy (Mike) Kruse, Joyce (Chris) Holmes, Dale (Scott) IntVeld, Dean IntVeld; sister-in-law: Pat IntVeld; spouse, Shirley; children: Penny (Nathan), Eric (Leigh); grandchildren: Paige, Alexis, Caleb, Bailey.
