Dorothy B. Simmons, age 84, of Brookings, died Sunday, April 9, 2017, at the Brookings Hospital.  Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Eidsness Funeral Home with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  Closed casket visitations will be one hour prior to the funeral.

Dorothy Sheridan Simmons was born to Joseph and Esther (Adamson) Sheridan on July 29, 1932, in Litchfield, Minnesota.  She was baptized and confirmed in St. Phillips Church, and attended Litchfield public schools.

In 1949, she moved with her family to Hutchinson, Minnesota.  She was employed at the 3-M Company, where she met and later married Calvin Simmons at the Vinyard Methodist Church in Hutchinson on August 11, 1950.  The couple moved to Brookings, South Dakota in 1970.

Survivors include sons, Tom (Marvel) Simmons of Dell Rapids, SD, Kurt (Carol) Simmons of Columbia, MO, Jim Simmons of Brookings, SD; daughter, Barbara (Tom) Lanning of Crooks, SD; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Vonnie Orbin of Cloquet, MN, Lorraine Halstrom of Largo, FL, Ruth Rettman of Fayetteville, NC, and brother Gene Sheridan of Henderson, NV.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Calvin in 2004; her parents; a sister, Dona Brown of Litchfield, MN; and a brother, Robert Sheridan of Willmar, MN.
