Dorothy I. Peterson, age 84, of Brookings, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Sturgis Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 3, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Dorothy Ida (Lamb) Peterson was born March 5, 1927, near Estelline, South Dakota, to Wesley and Kathryn (Willmott) Lamb. She moved with her family to the White area when she was five and attended country school. She graduated from White High School in 1945, then attended Sioux Falls College and Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls. She had various jobs in Sioux Falls and worked for the A.S.C.S. office in Brookings for four and a half years and the Brookings City Finance Office for 17 years, retiring in December 1988. Dorothy was baptized at the United Methodist Church in White. She later joined the Presbyterian Church in Brookings where she was active in Circle, choir, and on the board of trustees. In her latter years, she attended church in White. Dorothy enjoyed music, reading, writing, and raising plants and her cats. Survivors include her son, Alan Peterson, of Sturgis, South Dakota; nieces and nephews; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie, and two brothers, Marvin and Delmar.
