Dorothy D. King, age 83, of Brookings, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 30, at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings and beginning at noon on Wednesday at the funeral home in Redwood Falls. Dorothy Deane (Russell) King was born October 13, 1919, at Redwood Falls, Minnesota, to William and Alma (Wolverton) Russell. She was raised on the family farm and attended country school and Redwood High School. On September 4, 1937, she married Donald R. King at Redwood Falls. They lived in Brookings from 1961 until 1968, and Cape Girardeau, Missouri, from 1968 until 1985, where Dorothy was a proofreader for the Southeast Missourian Daily News. Following Donalds death in 1985, Dorothy moved back to Redwood Falls and then returned to Brookings in January 1999. Dorothy was a member of the Church of Christ and the Eene Club. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, listening to country music, dining out, shopping, and spending time with her family. Survivors include five children: Marlene (Stan) West of Racine, Wisconsin, Carol (Richard) Walter of Wabasso, Minnesota, Russell (Marcene) King of Marshalltown, Iowa, Kathi (Gerald) Granum of Volga, South Dakota, and Patricia (Glenn) Whitfield of Jackson, Mississippi; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Verna Olson, of Watertown, Minnesota; a brother, Douglas (special sister-in-law, Betty) Russell, Sr., of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Evie Berg of Belview, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; a grandson, Michael Walter; a brother, Howard Russell; and a sister, Edna Root.
