Dorothy D. Golden, age 89 of Brookings, SD, passed away on October 6, 2026 at the Neighborhoods in Brookings. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 10 at 1:00 pm at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am prior to the Funeral.

Dorothy Delores Weinzirl was born on June 14, 1937 in Durand, Wisconsin to Victor and Amelia Weinzirl. She graduated from Durand High School. On September 17, 1955, Dorothy married Howard D. Golden of Durand. Prior to marrying her husband Dorothy worked in the Durand Court House. Howard and Dorothy farmed together for 8 years in Wisconsin and continued on a farm they bought near Brookings.

Dorothy enjoyed gardening, travel, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brookings where she was active in the Women’s Circle and Wedding/Funeral Committees.

For many years she and her husband liked to go out with friends for supper and dancing. They also took many bus trips with friends. Dorothy maintained a vegetable and berry garden in addition to a large flower garden where she liked to spend most of her summer evenings.

Survivors include children, Sherrie (Brent) Bloemendaal of Zionsville, IN, Vickie (Bill) Fargen of Elkton, SD, Robert (Julie) Golden of Woodbury, MN, Michael (Shanna) Golden of Sioux Falls, SD, Ronald (Shawn) Golden of Madison, SD; grandchildren: Natalie (Andrew) Placek, Audrey (Reed) O’Neal, Julia Fargen, Quinn (Nicole) Fargen, Olivia (Thomas) Bartholow, Colin (Leah) Golden, Max (Brittany) Golden, Ben Golden, Halley Golden, and Ryan Golden (Emily); and thirteen great-grandchildren: Vivian Placek, Oliver Placek, Theodore Placek, Reed O’Neal III, Arlen O’Neal, Arje O’Neal, Cooper Bartholow, Daniel Bartholow, Miles Bartholow, Mila Golden, Violet Golden, Juniper Golden, Harley Golden.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Joyce Blasko, and her husband of over 60 years, Howard Golden.
