Dorothy L. Christie, age 81, of Brookings, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, February 10, 2005, surrounded by her family at her home in Brookings. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, preceded by interment at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials. Dorothy Leona (Nichols) Christie was born July 22, 1923, at Bucknell, Iowa, to John E. and Gladys Leona (Martin) Nichols. She grew up in Freeport, Illinois, and graduated from high school there in 1941. On April 4, 1943, she married Calvin D. Christie at Freeport, while Cal was serving in the Army. Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy in life was being with her family. She enjoyed collecting angels and Teddy bears. Survivors include her husband, Calvin D. Christie, of Brookings; three sons: Ronald D. (Susan) Christie of Brookings, Dannie J. (Nancy) Christie of Brookings, and Reggie L. (Lena Fe) Christie of Brookings; two daughters: Vickie G. (Cliff) Jackson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Trudie L. (Rod) Hersrud of Brookings; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a brother, John E. Nichols Sr., of Harvey, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant son, Calvin Lee Christie.
