Dorothy Bowne, age 91, of White, died Friday, September 2, 2005, at the White Healthcare Center in White, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Aurora, South Dakota, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery at Brookings. Visitations will be from 4-8 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Dorothy Berniece (Erickson) Bowne was born August 9, 1914, at Arlington, South Dakota, to Oscar A. and Mabel (Dahl) Erickson. She was baptized at Bangor Lutheran Church and confirmed at Sinai Lutheran Church. She attended schools at Sinai and Brookings. She moved to Brookings in 1930. She was employed at National Food Store for eleven and a half years, and during World War II she was employed by Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas, for three and a half years. On March 5, 1947, she married George R. Bowne at Brookings. They lived at Aurora and in 1954 moved to their farm near Bushnell. George died February 9, 1996. Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora, the United Methodist Women, Petal Pals Garden Club, Young Matrons Extension Club, the American Legion Auxiliary in White, and the Retarded Childrens Society in Brookings. She was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed her flowers. Survivors include her son, Dale Bowne and his wife Charleen, of White; two grandchildren: Jodi (Chris) Saunders of Champaign, Illinois, and Aaron (Mary) Bowne of White; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Lester (Vivian) Erickson of Arizona, and Ronald (Donna) Erickson of Madison, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Gary; a great-grandson; two sisters; and a brother.
