Dorothee A. Pike, age 82, of Lake Preston, died Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Arlington. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with interment in the Lake Preston Cemetery.
Dorothee Alma (Brose) Pike was born August 6, 1927, at Arlington, South Dakota, to Arthur Ferdinand and Alma (Weiss) Brose. She grew up in the Arlington area and graduated from high school there. She attended SDSU. On May 5, 1947, she married Verle G. Pike.
The Pikes lived several places and finally made Lake Preston their home. She took courses from Huron College, Sioux Falls College, and Northern State to earn library science credits. She was public librarian at Lake Preston for nearly 44 years, and was appointed to serve a term on the South Dakota State Library Board by Governor Walter D. Miller in 1993. Dorothee was active in many community organizations, a member of Lake Preston Lutheran Church, the WELCA and Circle.
Survivors include her husband, Verle Pike, of Lake Preston; two daughters: Roben Pike of Lake Preston and Denise Pike of Brookings; four grandchildren: Scott (Michelle) McCoy of Dallas, Texas, Jony (Bob) Bruns of Tea, South Dakota, Justyn Hauck of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Jasmine Pike of Brookings; five great-grandchildren: Tina, Dylan, Tristen, Korbyn, and Sladyn; and three sisters: Mavis Overgaard of Centerville, South Dakota, Irene Lund of Arlington, and Leona Johnson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Charon McCoy; and a brother, Vernon Brose.
