Doris L. Skordahl, age 82, of Brookings, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at the Brookings Hospital.  Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 8, 2008, at Sinai Lutheran Church with interment in the West Sinai Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.  Memorials may be sent to The Sinai Missions Club or The Sinai Women of ELCA., c/o Sinai Lutheran Church, Sinai, South Dakota, or the memorial of your choice.

Doris LaVina (Dahl) Skordahl was born May 26, 1926, in Brookings County at her parents' home near Sinai, South Dakota.  She was the daughter of Julius and Anna (Peterson) Dahl.  She received her education in Sinai, graduating from Sinai High School in 1944.  After graduation she was employed at the Office of Price Administration for several years during WW II.  In addition to being a homemaker she was employed at Economart doing demos for seven years.

She was united in marriage to Reuben C. Skordahl on December 9, 1945, in Sinai. Reuben and Doris shared 63 years together.  They spent their early years farming near Sinai. In 1952, they moved near Beresford, South Dakota, where they farmed for one year.  In 1953, they moved to Brookings where they have resided since.

Doris was a member of the Sinai Lutheran Church in Sinai.  She was a Friendship Bible Study leader for many years.  Doris was a devout Christian woman who was a true testament to her faith.  She was an avid Bible reader and prayer warrior.  Her faith and her family were the main loves in her life.  Doris loved entertaining family and friends  and had the gift of hospitality.  Reuben and Doris opened their home to many friends and family over the years.  The coffee pot was always on!  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, making special scrapbooks for family and friends, and church activities.

Doris is survived by her beloved husband and lifelong best friend, Reuben, three children:  Dean Skordahl (Lorraine) of Chisago City, Minnesota, Dan Skordahl (Jackie McAdaragh, fiancé) of Brookings, and Janell Jorgenson (Jon) of Greensboro, North Carolina.  Doris was a very proud, dedicated and loving Grandma to eight grandchildren: Tanya Brewbaker of Greensboro, North Carolina; Denise (Eric)Young and Brian Skordahl of Blaine, Minnesota; April (Mike) Peterson of Phoenix, Arizona; Joy (Grant) McAdaragh of Brookings, South Dakolta; Daniel (Liz) Skordahl of Elkton, South Dakota; and Jacob and Joshua Skordahl of Chisago City, Minnesota; two step-grandchildren: Bridgette (Brian) Kelly of Portland, Oregon, and David Jorgenson of Raleigh, North Carolina; and great-grandma to eleven great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents Julius and Anna Dahl of Sinai; four sisters,  Hazel Jacobson, Sadie Christopherson, Julia Finley, Julia Dahl (infant) and three brothers, Wesley Dahl, Jasper Dahl and Clifford Dahl.
