Doris Schonewill, age 78, died Monday, January 3, 2005, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Volga Christian Reformed Church, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Doris (Baker) Schonewill was born April 10, 1926, in Brookings County, South Dakota, to Case and Nellie (Baker) Baker. She attended country school at Bangor District No. 5, and then did housework in area homes. On May 15, 1946, she married Edward Schonewill at her parents' home near Arlington. The Schonewills lived all their married life in Volga. They resided at Dakota Sun for two years and at Brookview Manor in Brookings for the last two and a half years. Doris was a member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church and church circle. She enjoyed reading, embroidery, cross word puzzles, and feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Survivors include her husband, Edward, of Brookings; three sons: Milton (Sandi) Schonewill of Sioux Falls, Richard (Dee) Schonewill of Burnsville, MN, and Joel (Lorraine) Schonewill of Volga; two daughters: Nancy (Gary) Vincent of Marshall, MN, and Julie (Craig) Gunderson of Volga; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ann Baker, of Brookings; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Baker.
