Doris Marie Rook (Doe), age 97, of Brookings, passed away peacefully at United Living Community on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Please join us to celebrate her life on Tuesday, June 25th, in Madison, SD at the United Methodist Church from 1:00-3:00.

Doris was born February 9th, 1927, in rural Lake County, South Dakota, to Louis and Jennie (Zwart) Kruit. She married Glenn Rook on December 20th, 1943, in Pipestone, Minnesota. To this union, three children were born: Gary Lee, Gloria Lynn, and Gerald Lloyd.

Doris owned and operated Dino's Café in Madison, SD for several years. She also worked at the Madison Daily Leader and Montgomery's Furniture Store. Doe's favorite job was the United Methodist Church in Madison, where she kept the kitchen clean, dusted the pews, straightened the hymnals, and did so much more. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Doris enjoyed playing cards with family, bingo, bowling, baking, and shopping.

Doris is survived by her children: Gary Rook, Madison, SD; Gloria (Lyle) Smidt, Brookings, SD; Gerry (Lori) Rook, Watertown, SD; 5 grandchildren; Kelly Rook, Shelly (Wayne) Nightpipe, Jason (Mandy) Smidt, Justin Rook, Jacob Rook; 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson, many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Marion, her brother, Lloyd.
