Doris Ann Holm, age 83, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Waterford at All Saints in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A memorial mass will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at St. Thomas Catholic Parish in Brookings. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with a wake service at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to Waterford at All Saints, 111 W. 17th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57104. Doris Ann (Schaffner) Holm was born April 18, 1922, at Omaha, Nebraska, to Walter R. and Ellen (Bedessem) Schaffner. She moved to Brookings with her family when she was age 3. She graduated from Brookings High School in 1940 and from South Dakota State in 1944 with a B.S. degree in home economics with a minor in music. During World War II, she worked as a secretary in the math department at SDSU. On June 30, 1944, she married Donald E. Holm at Carthage, Missouri. The Holms lived in Brookings all their married life. Don died January 9, 1999. Doris Ann moved to Sioux Falls in November 2002. Doris Ann was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish and church guild. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, crossword puzzles, sports, and music. She played the violin in the high school and college orchestras. Survivors include her four children: Dr. Steven J. (Lynn) Holm of Valparaiso, Indiana, Dan M. (Jan) Holm of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Teri (Ron) Johnson of Denver, Colorado, and Thomas M. (Laurie) Holm of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nine grandchildren: Tomi (Matt) Meyer, Todd (Lindsey) Holm, Tony Holm, Courtney Holm, Tori Holm, Jesse Johnson, Bethanie Holm, Kristen Holm, and Alex Holm; a brother, Jim (Mary Frances) Schaffner of Bradenton, Florida; and a brother-in-law, Dennis (Cleo) Holm, of Mountain Home, Arkansas.
