Donna M. Sondergard was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, the daughter of Nelse and Ruth (Pansegrau) Sondergard, and spent most of her early life there. She attended Aberdeen Central High School and later pursued business college in Aberdeen, preparing her for a lifelong career rooted in hard work and service to others.
She met the love of her life, Alvin Bahr, on a blind date and they were wed on June 15, 1970. Together they were blessed with two children. Throughout her working life, Donna was employed at John Deere in Aberdeen, the Aberdeen Country Club, and spent several years working as a bookkeeper. She was also devoted to life on the farm, where she proudly served as a farmer's wife for much of her life.
Donna was a woman of faith and an active church member. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ferney, South Dakota, and later Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings.
Donna and Alvin liked going out to eat and were affectionately known as "Ma and Pa" at their favorite restaurant. In earlier years, they traveled often to the Black Hills, Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota. Family was at the heart of Donna's life. She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed attending family gatherings, going out to eat, and traveling. Donna had a fondness for music boxes and was known for enjoying her black coffee "like a good Norwegian."
Donna is survived by her son, Alvin Marvin Bahr Jr. and his wife, Carrie; her daughter, Roxanne Fey; grandchildren Steven Fey, Stephanie Dahlman and her husband Steve, Nicole Hauke and her husband Matt; and great-grandchildren Allis Dahlman and Casey Dahlman.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin Marvin Bahr Sr.; and her parents, Nelse Sondergaard and Ruth Pansegrau.
Donna will be remembered for her quiet strength, her devotion to family, and the love she shared with those around her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice in Donna's name.
