Donald A. Starkenburg, age 82, of Volga, died Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota, where he had resided since November 8, 2005. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 31, 2007, at the Volga Christian Reformed Church, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Donald Arie Starkenburg was born March 20, 1925, at Volga, South Dakota, to John and Grace (Lengkeek) Starkenburg. He attended schools in the Volga area. On February 25, 1947, he married Hilda Meyer at Volga. The couple moved to a farm north of Volga where they lived until Don became ill. Don worked at the Farmers Creamery (later Land O Lakes) from 1956 until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed riding in the country enjoying nature. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Starkenburg, of Volga; a daughter, Delores Bothe and her husband Ron of Colman, South Dakota; two brothers: Alvin Starkenburg of Bruce, South Dakota, and Kenneth (Marilyn) Starkenburg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
