Donald E. Havrevold, age 73, of Brookings, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 4, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church in Brookings, with interment and graveside military rites at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Donald Eugene Havrevold was born July 12, 1930, at Volga, South Dakota, to Walter and Nettie Cora (Nelson) Havrevold. He attended high school in Volga. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1954, during the Korean War. On October 18, 1952, he married Ruth Fedde at Hernando, Mississippi. Following his discharge from the Navy, Don worked on road construction and for the City of Brookings for 20 years until retiring in 1992. Ruth died June 5, 2003. Don was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a life member and Past Commander of George Dokken V.F.W. Post No. 2118 and also a Past District Commander. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening. Survivors include his daughter, Marcella (Tim) Banks, of Tucson, Arizona; Sarah and Luke Banks; a brother, Ray (Judy) Havrevold, of Mitchell, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Helen Havrevold, of Volga; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers: Lester, Ivan, and Wally; and a sister, Lillian.
