Donald M. Boettcher, age 87, of Bruce, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Estelline Nursing & Care Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 13, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce, with interment and military rites at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church. Donald M. Boettcher was born August 25, 1923, at Kennebec, South Dakota, to George Erkardt and Mary Annie (Dixon) Boettcher. He attended school in Kennebec and finished high school in Bruce when the family moved. On February 10, 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns. He was discharged from the Army on November 10, 1945. On March 15, 1946, Don married Mary Lenning at Milbank, South Dakota. Don was employed at John Morrell's, and then he and Mary moved to Bruce in 1963. Don worked as a barber in Volga until his retirement. Mary died April 2, 2002. Don was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Waite-Westrum-Skovlund American Legion Post No. 200 of Bruce. Survivors include a sister, Delila Goodroad, of Sioux Falls, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers: Gaylord, Lloyd, and Arnold; and two sisters, Mary Jane and June.
