Don Lang, age 85, of White, died Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at the Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Interment will be at Midway Lutheran Cemetery, rural Colman, South Dakota around 1:00 P.M. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Don Walter Lang was born September 8, 1924, in Pipestone County, Minnesota, to Henry and Lena (Bennebose) Lang. He grew up on farms in the White, South Dakota, area and attended country schools into the seventh grade. Don helped with work on the farm as a young boy. He had his own salvage yard, buying iron and cars. He traded goats, horses, and cattle, and continued farming in the White area. Don also started his own custom trucking business. On November 16, 1950, he was united with Marilyn Janssen.
Don enjoyed cattle, horses, goats, and all small animals. He also enjoyed collecting coins, going to sales at the sale barns and auctions, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Deborah (Carleton) Leraas, of Colman, South Dakota; three grandchildren: Danny (Becky) Leraas of Brookings, South Dakota, Mandi (Travis) Prinsen of Blaine, Minnesota, and Amber (Jason) Janousek of Colman; two great-granddaughters: Hadley Prinsen and Jacey Bailey; three sisters: Milderd Gehrts of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, Alice Trulock of Tracy, Minnesota, and Alvera Sik of Lake Benton, Minnesota; two brothers: Millard (Marcella) Lang of Starbuck, Minnesota, and Norman (Juanita) Lang of Elmira, Oregon; many nieces and nephews; a host of friends; and a dear friend and neighbor, Gordon Williamson. He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Lena Lang; one brother, Alvin Lang; one sister, Helen Klein.
