Obituary

Dolores "Dolly" Olive Brage, age 91, of Brookings, died, Friday, November 21, 2014, at the Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings, SD. Funeral Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2014, at Cannon River Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, MN with burial in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, SD. Dolores was born on August 5, 1923, in rural Cannon Falls, MN, to Leonard and Esther (Bodin) Anderson. She received her elementary education at a rural school in Goodhue County, MN, and graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1941. Dolores continued her education at Cannon Falls Teachers Institute. Upon graduation she became the teacher for the one-room school in Welch, MN, and later for School District #139. Dolores married Burton L. Brage on September 18, 1948. They resided in St. Paul for two years while Burton finished his education at the University of Minnesota where he completed his Ph.D.Dolores worked at the Mutual Insurance Company in St. Paul during that time. The couple moved to Brookings, SD, where Burton accepted a position as assistant professor of Agronomy at South Dakota State College. Throughout the following years Dolores enjoyed assisting Burton as his South Dakota State University career advanced. After Burton's retirement they resided in Brookings, the city they loved so much, until the time of their deaths. Dolores was a member of First Lutheran Church in Brookings, First Lutheran Church Women, Chapter P P.E.O., Brookings Health System Auxiliary, SDSU Extension Club, and Literary Club. She participated in volunteer work for several organizations including SDSU Art Museum and Brookings Hospice. In addition, Dolores served as co-chairperson of the Brookings County American Cancer Society Fund Drive for several years as well as the chairperson and coordinator for the Brookings Health System Auxiliary's Meals on Wheels program for the past twenty-five years. Dolores and Burton received the Brookings Community Service Award in 1988. Dolores' husband, two daughters, granddaughter, brothers, parents, and grandparents inspired her in the areas of gardening, home making, stitchery, and antiques. Survivors who are thankful for sharing her life include her daughters, Sharon (William) Moore of Sioux Falls, SD, and Diane (Thomas) Hudson of Lincoln, NE; one granddaughter, Kristen (Denny Sreckovic) Moore; two step-grandchildren; five great-step-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers, Marvin and twin Donald "Bobby."
