Dennis J. Sween, Sr., died Sunday, July 30, 2006, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 3, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Elkton, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-8 P.M. Wednesday at Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Dennis James Sween, Sr., was born April 7, 1940, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was raised by his parents, Gilbert and Signe (Swedlund) Sween, and grew up in the Bruce/Estelline/Brookings area. He worked at various jobs prior to his marriage to Betty Oppelt on December 4, 1981, at Watertown, South Dakota. Following his marriage, Dennis worked in Brookings for Rapidways Trucking and Prunty Construction. Dennis was a member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Elkton, and had served on the church council. He enjoyed working with tools, and collecting horses and John Deere memorabilia. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Betty Sween, of Elkton; a son, Dennis J. Sween Jr., of Flandreau, five daughters: Deanna (Russell) Feierstein of Coolidge, AZ, Signe Denise (Larry) Williams of Coolidge, AZ, Christie Sween (Troy Wellman) of Flandreau, Tonya (Jeff) Beynon of Brookings, and Lori Sween (Rob Wood) of Pierre; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters: Mick (Dorothy) Sween of Estelline, Lillian Hedblad of Detroit, Michigan, Elsie (Rolf) Hovey of Bruce, Vernon (Judy) Nessan of Puyallup, Washington, Lorin (Vicki) Nessan of Granby, Colorado, Marlys Nessan of Port Hueneme, California, Phyllis Ruby of Cheney, Kansas, Helen (Roger) Merriman of Spearfish, Barbara (Frank) Green of Sioux Falls, and Bonnie (Craig) Eitrem of Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
