Dennis Reed, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at home under hospice care, surrounded by his family.  Visitation will be from 4-6 P.M. on Sunday, October 20th at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brookings.  Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. on Monday, also at the church.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dennis was born on April 25, 1941, to Merlin and Leona (Bates) Reed in Clear Lake, SD.  During his childhood, Dennis enjoyed fishing and helping his grandparents on the farm near White, SD. During high school, Dennis enjoyed playing basketball and football.   He graduated from White High School and attended one year at General Beadle in Madison, SD.

On November 10, 1960, Dennis married Arla Harms.  He began working for Sexaurer Elevator in Brookings where he was employed for over 30 years.  Dennis was also a Brookings Cab Driver for 10 years. In the 60's and 70's, Dennis raced a 32 Ford.

During his lifetime, Dennis also enjoyed slow pitch softball, basketball, bowling and fishing.  He would buy a new boat every year! He will be remembered for his love of snowmobiling and being on the race car team at the Brookings dirt track.  Dennis worked on many classic cars; buying and selling them for a hobby.  Arla and Dennis truly enjoyed their time traveling together over the years.  He will be missed by his many friends that he met from his weekly outing get-togethers.

Survivors include his wife, Arla (Harms) Reed; MaLinda (Steve) McGuffin, Melanie (Brian) Drexler, and Mark Reed; grandchildren: Mariah Raske, Mackenzie Raske, Dalton Drexler, Addison Reed, Micah Reed, and Brody Reed.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and Leona Reed; siblings, Karen Jorgenson, Vicki Lucas, and Sandra Reed; and daughter, Michelle Raske.
