Dennis Quissell, age 68, died Saturday, February 28, 2015, at his home near Brookings. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment at Bethania Cemetery near Trent, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Dennis Curtis Quissell was born November 15, 1946, at Dell Rapids, South Dakota, to Curtis and Elaine (Opstedahl) Quissell. He graduated from high school in Jasper, Minnesota in 1964. He served in the U.S. Air Force from January 7, 1966, until May 6, 1969. He farmed near Sherman, South Dakota, from 1969 until 1976, and then worked for Jackrabbit Bus Lines from 1976 until 1979. On March 31, 1979, he married Mary Rolfson Artz at Brandon, South Dakota. In September 1979, he and Mary started a trucking company, D&M Cartage in Brookings. Dennis retired in 2010. Dennis was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He was very active in the Sons of Norway, and had served as president of the Brookings Lodge and as a District officer for four years. He served on the Sioux Valley Energy Membership Advisory Committee. He enjoyed spending time at their lake cabin at Lake Poinsett, collecting antique John Deere tractors, and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Brookings; two sons: Jon (Chantel) Quissell of Lincoln, Nebraska, and James (Deanne) Quissell of Plymouth, Indiana; a daughter, Dawn Artz, of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren; four brothers: Olin (Lynne) Quissell of Maquoketa, Iowa, Myron (Bonnie) Quissell of Sherman, South Dakota, Mark (Angie) Quissell of Sioux Falls, and Bob (Ronda) Quissell of Jasper, Minnesota; and two sisters: Eunice (Bob) McKay of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Ruth (Paul) Resel of Welch, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Jody.
