Obituary

Dennis Haber, age 61, of White, died Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in White, with interment and military rites at Fairview Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Dennis was born in Brookings, South Dakota, on November 13, 1950, the son of Merlin and Margaret (Walker) Haber. He was baptized at the White Methodist Church and has been a confirmed member there for 46 years. As a child he attended Sherman District No. 105 country school and the Deubrook Area Schools where he graduated in May of 1970. In 1971, Dennis enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base in New York until his medical discharge in 1975. For the next 17 years Dennis lived at home with his parents on the family farm near White. He participated in the usual farm functions as his health allowed. He especially was fond of feeding the cattle and taking care of his pets. While living in the White community, Dennis was a member of the White Jaycees for a short time and enjoyed ushering at the White Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. In 1992, Dennis moved with his parents to Brookings, and resided with them until January of 2004. At that time he moved to ADVANCE and was a resident there until just before his passing. Dennis considered ADVANCE an extension of his family and he loved his years spent there. He especially enjoyed the social outings with his ADVANCE group of friends and watching any western movie, especially those with John Wayne. All who knew and cherished Dennis will always remember his love for telling an old story. His love of God and unending love of his parents, sisters, brothers-in-law and especially nieces and nephews grew stronger each and every day. Dennis is survived by his mother, Margaret Haber, of Brookings; two sisters Jeanine (Terry) McKeown of Brookings, and Marsha (Craig) Leite of Volga; four nieces and nephews: Jessica (Eric) Loos of Overland Park, Kansas, Mallory Leite of Fargo, North Dakota, Brett McKeown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Tyson (Nicole) Leite of Brookings. He is also survived by a great niece and nephew, Abby and Logan Loos of Overland Park, Kansas, several uncles, aunts, numerous cousins , as well as his ADVANCE family. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Merlin, of Brookings; grandparents, Hortie and Olive Haber and Jacob and Dora Walker. Blessed be his memory.
