Dena Mans Meyer, age 90, went to be with her Lord and Saviour early Christmas morning at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. Funeral services were held at the Volga Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 11am. Burial was at the Trinity Cemetery. On August 31, 1922, Dena was born to Peter and Johanna (Lengkeek) Mans. She was a lifelong member of the Volga CRC. On February 9, 1945, she married William (Bill) Meyer in Volga. They lived in Denver, CO, Orange City, IA, and Volga, SD. In her younger days she worked as a hired girl for many families and also as a Nurse's Aid. Active in her church and community, Dena delivered Meals on Wheels as well as helped the elderly by taking them to Doctor appointments, getting their mail, etc. She was a member of Dorcas Ladies Aid, Rebecca Bible Study, Adult Fellowship, and American Legion Auxiliary, and for many years helped with Friendship Class and Coffee Break, and also at the Volga Museum. Dena was an "Avon Lady" for over 35 years, but mostly, she was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed baking, especially for others, as well as music, gardening and some quilting and scrapbooking. She will be remembered for her loving, giving nature, her cinnamon rolls, fried chicken and her rhubarb dessert. Dena was preceded in death by, and is now reunited with, her husband, Bill, her son, Rodney, her parents, Peter and Johanna Mans, in-laws Otto and Susie Meyer, sister Elizabeth, brothers Henry, Otto, Mitchell Robert (Bob), brothers-in-law Orville "Skipper" Terkelsen, Donald De Groot, Leonard Gorter, Ronald Brink, sisters-in-law Alice Mans, Betty Mans, Dena Mans and many nieces and nephews. Dena was greatly loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed by her children: Larry (Donna) Meyer, Sheboygan, WI, Gladie (Douglas) Peuler, Wyoming, MI, Randall (Patty) Meyer, Faribault, MN, Pearl Meyer (husband Amador Suarez Balbauna), Miami, FL, Tamara (Richard) Lough, Eagan, MN. Dena will also be deeply missed by her 14 grand-children: Kari (Chad) Bonnema, Timothy (Kate) Meyer, Sandra (David) Teitsma, David (Elizabeth) Meyer, Amy Meyer, Kristi (Nathan) Brondyke, Bradley (Beth) Peuler, Jacki (Jason) Rigterink, William (Hope) Meyer, Harrison Meyer, Jeffrey Meyer, Russell Meyer, Zachary Lough, Megan Lough, and her 10 great-grand children McKenna, Madison, Meredith and Mason Bonnema, Adam and Brianna Meyer, Alexander Meyer, Katelyn and Chase Rigterink and Kelvin William Peuler. She will be missed by her brothers Arie, Clarence (Casey), Louis and Peter Mans and sisters Margaret De Groot, June Gorter and Johanna Brink, sisters-in-law Margaret, Genevieve, Jo and Laura Mans. Memorial Contributions may be made in Dena's name to the Volga CRC or the Volga Christian School.
