Deb Vierhuf, age 52, of White, South Dakota, died Monday, October 31, 2011, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 5, 2011, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery, White. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Debra Lynn Vierhuf was born February 21, 1959, to Virgil and Lucille (Olthoff) Halbur in Slayton, Minnesota. She attended public school in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School. After graduation Deb majored in animal science at South Dakota State University. She graduated with her B.S. Degree in 1981. She then became a cook at Ione's Café in Brookings for 3 years until the café burned down. On August 4, 1984, Deb wed Richard "Butch" Vierhuf in White. Deb became head cook in the dietary department at the Brookings Hospital and was there for 23 1/2 years. For the last few years Deb was employed as an overnight custodian at SDSU until her death. Deb was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in White. She enjoyed animals and gardening. She and Butch took their produce to many farmer's markets. Deb also liked to sew, knit, and embroider, taking many of her creations to various craft shows. The time she enjoyed the most was being with all her family. Deb is survived by her husband, Butch, of White; a step-daughter, Jody (Carl) Unverrich, of Tacoma, Washington; her parents, Virgil and Lucille Halbur, of Slayton, Minnesota; two sisters: Gail (Rick) Demmer, of Ellendale, Minnesota and Cheryl (Mike) Kellen, of Parkers Prairie, Minnesota; two brothers: Doug (Becky) Halbur and Gregg (Denise) Halbur, both of Hadley, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Barb (Martin) Bosch, of Brookings, South Dakota; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and one great-nephew, Karson Kreun.
