David L. Townsend, age 90, of Sturgis, South Dakota, winter visitor to Casa Grande, Arizona, died at the Casa Grande Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 21, at the Bruce United Methodist Church, with interment at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, March 20, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. David Townsend was born in Ashton, Iowa, on January 25, 1917, to James and Erma Townsend. He was an Army veteran who survived the bombing at Pearl Harbor, received medals for being in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater, American Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star and 4 overseas service bars, also served in the Central Pacific, Northern France and Rhineland Campaigns. He is a retired Postmaster. Dave is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maydean (Beem) Townsend, sons, Joseph Townsend of Atoka, OK, Daniel of Sturgis, SD, Paul Townsend of East Sound, WA; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, James, Roger and Don. A brother, Charles, died March 16, 2007.
