David W. Thompson, age 83, of Volga, died Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery at Volga. Visitations will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2016, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.

David was born October 25, 1932, to Olga (Alseth) and Martin Thompson in Volga, SD. He married Evelyn May (Jorenby) on June 10, 1956, at First Lutheran Church in Volga. Dave was employed by Volga Creamery, then Dakota Dairies, and finally Land-O Lakes for over 42 years. He started as a route driver and worked his way up to a dry milk bagger and butter maker. Finally, for the last 30 years, Dave worked as a Maintenance Technician at the plant.

Since David's retirement in 1995, he and Evelyn spent their time traveling, collecting and rebuilding classic cars and tractors, and their best hobby, spoiling the grandkids.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; brother, Donald (Betty) of Hesperia, California; three sons, Robert of Bruce, SD, Scott and Lanette (Singleton) of Brandon, SD, and Roger of Rapid City, SD; five grandchildren: Joren of Madison, WI, Brittany of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Kyle of Mankato, MN, Rebecca of Sioux Falls, SD, and William of Brandon, SD; cousin, Joanne Kringen of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and brothers and sisters-in-Law, Wayne ( Carol) Jorenby of Volga; Dorothy Beach of Brookings, and Robert Hillestad of Brookings.
