Obituary

David "Dave" Brian Robinson

Born: June 5, 1955 Windsor ON Canada

Died: January 11, 2021 Sioux Falls, SD USA

Dave departed this life and went into God's arms after a short two week, heroic and valiant fight against COVID19 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Dave had also been newly diagnosed with stage 4 cancer just weeks before.

Dave had come to Brookings, SD in December 2019 with his wife Rev. Norlita Kaul as she began serving as Interim Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, and as of November 29,2020, also serving as a shared pastor, with Brookings United Church of Christ.

Dave jumped in and began assisting with the sound/zoom technology for the worship services at First Presbyterian, joining the church and always being the quiet and gentle support person as a pastor's spouse. Dave also joined the local Ham Radio "Amateur Radio" Club in Brookings, participating in monthly meetings, weekly Tuesday Net Check In and Thursday Coffee conversations. His call sign in the US was KD8ZUZ and VE3ZUZ in Canada.

As shared by his brother Doug, Dave was always taking part in the community. For childhood memories, he was part of the dance committee and student council at J.L.Forster Collegiate School (Graduate 1974), in Sandwich Township, Windsor ON Canada. Along with his brother, they took part in the Rose City REACT (Radio Emergency Associated Citizen Team) in the 1970'2-1980's.

Dave was involved with EMO (Emergency Measures Organization). He also was a member of the Border Cities Radio Club in Windsor, The Boonslick Amateur Radio Club and Model Train Club in Boonville MO, a few years prior to coming to Brookings. He liked to help with doing radio communications for the Bike Race held in KCMO, and along with his brother, doing the same for the Detroit Marathon.

Dave was also a Scout Leader with Boy Scouts in Canada and a Venturer. He wanted to be a fire fighter when he was in his teens and spent some time designing fire trucks. He would often call his brother to say that he heard of a major fire on the scanner, and the two of them would just go to watch it all unfold. The friendship he held with his brother was deep, they would often spend Saturday mornings in their later years, going to Home Depot, Canadian Tire and grabbing an XL Steeped Tea with Milk and an Old Fashioned Plain Donut at the Tim Horton's Coffee Shop in Walkerville (Windsor). He maintained a love for a triple bacon pizza and had quite the sweet tooth.

Dave loved the Canadian Rock Group RUSH, and the TV shows, The Red Green Show, Royal Canadian Air Farce, This Hour Has 22 Minutes and the Rick Mercer Report (in Canada), along with US TV Shows Young Sheldon, The Big Bang Theory, The Simpsons, Forensic Files, Homicide Hunter. He loved the Marvel Comic Movies very much. His favorite video game to play in his retirement years was Battle Pirates.

He worked as the Tool Crib Supervisor for the Night School Classes at St. Clair College in Windsor ON, in the Skilled Trades program, at the FCEM and Rhodes Campuses, retiring after 25 years of service. As support staff, he helped many students and their instructors, while supervising other part time support staff and overseeing a hefty budget for his department.

Dave was a life long Presbyterian after first being baptized in Oct. 1955 at Lincoln Rd. United Church in Walkerville/Windsor ON. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Windsor (now closed), prior to his marriage to Rev. Kaul

Dave was a Master Mason, a member of Roseville Lodge #522 F.& AM in Roseville (Detroit) MI. He was a life member of Madison Court #11 in West Branch MI, and a dual member of Sunshine Court #3 in St. Louis MO, Order of The Amaranth.

Dave held a deep love for the outdoors, watching/tracking the weather, often working as a trained Tornado Spotter after getting his Amateur Radio License. This love for the outdoors and camping he shared with his wife and her family, being a stepdad and as "Opa" to grandchildren, something he enjoyed doing often. Family was very important to him.

Dave leaves behind his wife, Rev. Norlita Kaul (Mrs. Robinson) (Brookings), stepchildren Natalie and Nolan, grandchildren Chloe, Kaitlyn and Maxwell, other extended family (Char and Anna, Norbert, Jo Ann and family, Josef and family, Randy and family, Michelle and family, Charmaine and family) all of St. Louis MO, brother Douglas in Elliot Lake ON, Canada, numerous friends in both the US and Canada.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Winnifred Prior Robinson, VE3HXL in Nov. 2000 and his father, Robert Douglas Robinson in Jan.2003, both in Windsor ON Canada.

A Memorial Service will be held at a future date. Internment will be in Windsor ON Canada at a future date.

Dave was truly a gentle man, a deep and quiet thinker, a man who held a deep spirituality, faith and love of God and Christ's church on earth that sustained and grounded him through his lifetime. As a man of few words, his life's legacy shall always speak volumes of a life valued, treasured and well lived, in simplicity and without fanfare. The world is a better place because of his life, he is greatly missed and the hole that's left behind cannot be filled. We give thanks and praise to God for his life.
