David E. Berge, age 89, died Friday, August 21, 2015, at his home in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Lake Campbell Lutheran Church, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. David Eugene Berge was born July 4, 1926, in Brookings County to Oscar and Ruth (Havrevold) Berge. He attended country school in District No. 90, Medary Township. His father died when David was ten years old, and he began farming when he was 14. On December 27, 1946, he married Ethel Bortnem. She died December 24, 1985. David retired from farming in 1986. On July 8, 1989, David married Earleen Boxa at Lake Campbell Lutheran Church. They made their home near Lake Campbell until moving into Brookings. David was a life-long member of Lake Campbell Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He also served on the rural fire department, township board, and District No. 90 school board. He bowled on the Artz Locker team for 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Earleen, of Brookings; a daughter, Joyce Manion, of California; a son, David Berge, of Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Jonas (Ali) Berge of New Mexico, and Christopher Berge of Wisconsin; a great-grandson, Owen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; a brother, Joe; and two sisters, Ruby and Ruth.
