David A. Apland, age 65, of Brookings, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at the Avera-McKennan Hospice in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the Brookings United Church of Christ, with interment in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Oldham, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. David Allen Apland was born March 25, 1941, at the Drakola community near DeSmet, South Dakota, to William Fredrick and Gladys Adeline (Abrahamson) Apland. He moved to the Redfield Training Center in June 1948 and then to ADVANCE at Brookings in December 2006. He loved music, eating ice cream, and spending time outside. Survivors include his two brothers: Douglas Apland of Brookings, and Milo (Kathy) Apland of Brookings; a niece, Sheila (Gary) Ottenbacher, of Aberdeen, South Dakota; a nephew, Stuart (Melissa) Apland, of Brookings; a great-nephew, William Ottenbacher; an uncle, James (Wilma) Abrahamson, of DeSmet; two aunts, Orpha Abrahamson of Howard and Viola Apland of Sioux Falls; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
