Darwin E. Johnson, age 69, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with interment at 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 9, at Glen Haven Memorial Garden in Crystal, Minnesota.
Darwin E. Johnson was born October 8, 1940, at Watertown, South Dakota, to Thorvold N. and Minnie E. (Meyers) Johnson. He grew up in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from August 1959 until April 1963, and then attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion where he received B.S. and B.A degrees. He was employed as a certified public accountant for several companies including McGladvey, Hanson, Dunn, & Co., Industrial Credit Corporation, and the Grain Terminal Association (Farmers Union Grain Terminal.) Following his retirement as an accountant, Darwin became a truck driver. He had a wide variety of interests including reading, kayaking and canoeing, and working with animals as a dog trainer and volunteer at an animal shelter.
Survivors include a sister, Janet TeBeest, of Brookings; two brothers: Larry (Phyllis) Johnson of Alexandria, Minnesota, and LeRoy Johnson of Arlington, South Dakota; and six nieces and nephews.
