Our country lost a great Eagle Scout when Darren M. Kersey of Volga, SD died on Monday, July 20, 2026, after a long, courageous fight with cancer. He was 57. Darren was born in Crosby, ND and grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota where he tried out many potential career paths, including as a volunteer paramedic on a rural ambulance team. He then moved to Brookings, SD to attend South Dakota State University and stayed long-term to work at the University as an IT Support Specialist. When Darren was a young man, he enjoyed gaming, rock climbing, and riding his motorcycle. In his later years, his greatest joy was fatherhood and family time. Darren is survived by his wife, Kristin; children, Vernon and Lydia; parents Cleo and Vernon; brother Doug; Pat (JC) Adams , Cindy (Kirby) Mueller, Jeanine KerseyRussell, Gail (Bryon) Hoff, and Cathy Kersey; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Memorial services will be held in Bismarck, ND on August 15, 2026 at McCabe United Methodist Church at 1 P.M.
