Darlene "Dolly" Oines, age 98, of Volga, SD, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at The Neighborhoods in Brookings, SD. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Volga. Interment will follow at First Lutheran Cemetery in Volga. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, October 5, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Volga.
Darlene Louise Oines was born October 26, 1927, to Ramond and Evelyn (Sundet) Strande, the oldest of eight children. She graduated from Volga High School in 1945 and immediately after graduation went to work at First National Bank of Volga. On June 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robert Eugene Oines at First Lutheran Church in Volga. They raised their family on the farm until 1972, when they moved into Volga. There Dolly did daycare for 10 years. Following that she was employed at the Volga City Finance Office and V-Store. In 1984 she went to work at the Register of Deeds office in Brookings. She retired from that position in 1994.
Dolly was an active member of First Lutheran church in Volga, church circle, Sunday School and VBS teacher and superintendent, WELCA, and the Fort Nightly Club. She enjoyed c1ttending school sporting events at Sioux Valley; reading, baking, cooking and especially entertaining and spending time with her family and friends. After retirement it was "pie day" at the Valley with the "gals" and giving rides for the elderly ladies.
Family and friends were very important to her and that showed in how many cards and phone calls she made for every birthday, shower, wedding, funeral, etc. to the people that touched her life. That was important to her.
Dolly is survived by her children, Roger (Judy) Oines, The Villages, FL; Sharman Quam, Brookings; Weston (Julie) Oines, Beresford; daughter in law Shirley Oines, Sioux Falls; brothers Russell Strande and Lloyd Strande, Brookings; a sister Camey (Jim) Fenton, Sun City, AZ, sister in law Darla Strande; her 9 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, son, Stuart Oines, son in law, David Quam, grandson, Stuart Oines, Jr., great granddaughter Kinley Schreiber, brothers Lyle Strande, Richard Strande, John Strande, sister Carol Roach and brothers in law Al Roach and Larry Chaddock and sisters in law Shirley Strande, Carol Jean Strande and Ruth Ann Strande.
Memorials may be directed to Keep Kids Camping at First Lutheran Church in Volga and Volga First Responders.
