Obituary

Darlene Gunderson, age 70, died Saturday, November 13, 2004, at her home in Volga, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the East Bethany Cemetery at Erwin. Visitations will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Darlene Mae (Jensen) Gunderson was born August 14, 1934, at Erwin, South Dakota, to J. Albert and Mertle (Bergerson) Jensen. She was baptized and confirmed at East Bethany Lutheran Church at Erwin. She attended Heartland District No. 36 country school, and graduated from Erwin High School in 1952. She worked for Northwestern Public Service in Huron. On May 7, 1954, she married Edgar Gunderson at Bryant, South Dakota. The Gundersons farmed following their marriage and then moved to Madison, South Dakota, where Darlene provided daycare in the home. They moved to Brookings in 1976, and Darlene worked at the Brookings Hospital. In 1977 they moved to Volga where Darlene worked for the Parkview Home. Darlene was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga. She enjoyed shopping and collecting dolls. Survivors include her husband, Edgar Gunderson, of Volga; four sons: Douglas (Amy) Gunderson of Burnsville, Minnesota, Kevin (Julie) Gunderson of Volga, Craig (Julie) Gunderson of Volga, and Terry Gunderson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a daughter, Cindy (Darwin) Minder, of Lennox, South Dakota; seven grandchildren: Chris and Mike Gunderson of Brookings, Jennifer, Cory, and Natalie Gunderson of Volga, Stephanie Bjorklund of Sioux Falls, Matthew Gunderson of Burnsville; a step-grandchild, Alec Wells, of Burnsville; three brothers: Virgil (Joyce) Jensen of Erwin, South Dakota, LuVerne (Donna) Jensen of Erwin, Merlyn (Margaret) Jensen of Volga; two sisters: Geraldine (Dick) Lommel of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Joyce Dubro of Huron, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Beverly (Gayle) Holida of Chester, South Dakota; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Gene Gunderson of Bryant, South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews.
