Daniel John Haler was born April 29, 1987 to Paul and Cynthia (Jones) Haler in St. James, MN. He grew up in St. James and was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. He graduated from St. James High School in 2005, where he was active in FFA, tennis and 4-H. After graduation, Dan attended one year of college in Willmar, MN before transferring to Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Pipestone, MN. He graduated in 2008, with a building trade degree. During college, Dan worked for ICS Inc. and later for Romsdahl Construction. During this time, Dan was a Watonwan County Fair Board Director. In the fall of 2009, Dan moved to Lake Preston, South Dakota. He worked for the City of Lake Preston and then Kingbrook Rural Water. His real love and passion was raising cattle, working in the field, and baling hay. He was a true farm boy and nothing slowed him down, he continued to work until the time of his death. On September 10, 2011, Dan married the love of his life, Katherine Stewart at First Lutheran Church in St. James, MN. They made their home on Grandpa and Grandma Stewart's farm north of Lake Preston. Dan was a genuinely kind person and always willing to help whoever or wherever needed. He never complained or felt sorry for himself. He was well known for his statements; "It is what it is", "For sureFor sure", "It'll be alright", and "Life is good". Dan defined the word, courage. Every night he would thank the good Lord for another beautiful day on this earth. He kept the faith through it all. Dan was active in the South Dakota Charolais Association and the Kingsbury County Cattleman's Association as a board member. He was also an active volunteer with the Lake Preston Fire Department. He enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling, deer hunting, ice fishing, riding his Harley, and bailing hay.
