Dale E. Vander Wal, age 64, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at his home near Bruce. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 31, 2010, at the First Reformed Church in Volga, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at First Reformed Church, 601 East First Street.
Dale Eugene Vander Wal was born July 2, 1946, at Volga, South Dakota, to Arie J. and Mary (Wiersma) Vander Wal. He attended school at Oakwood District No 52, and graduated from the eighth grade and high school at the Volga Public Schools. He received the state farmer degree in FFA while in high school. He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees from April 1966 until October 1969. On August 17, 1967, he married Susan Volkers at Volga. Dale farmed for many years, drove truck for a year and a half, and worked at Wal Mart for eleven years.
Dale was a member of First Reformed Church and the American Legion Post in Bruce. He enjoyed watching sprint car races, visiting with friends, collecting scale models of cars and tractors, attending auction sales, and going for drives in the country. His favorite hobby was driving John Deere tractors. Dale enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. Praise the Lord for families and the blessings of life.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Vander Wal, of Bruce; two sons: Kelly (Vickie) Vander Wal and their children Dayton, Mariah, Alicia, and Preston, of Volga, and Jeff (Beth) Vander Wal and their children Sadie and Mitchell of Brentford, South Dakota; a daughter, Londa Vander Wal and her fianc Candidus Nwadike, of Barre, Vermont; a brother, Lawrence (Sally) Vander Wal of Bruce; two sisters: Joanne Anderson of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Lois (Jim) Hoffman of Platte, South Dakota; mother-in-law, Alice Volkers, of Volga; a sister-in-law, Marla Volkers and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Brenda Volkers, both of Volga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arie J. and Mary Vander Wal; father-in-law, Herman Volkers; brothers-in-law, C. Richard Anderson and Bob Volkers; and a nephew, Benjamin Volkers.
