Daisy P. (Busse) Bergjord was born on April 23, 1933, the daughter of William and Marvel (Bing) Busse in Luverne, MN. She attended and graduated from Luverne High School, class of 1951. Following graduation, Daisy moved to St. Paul and "I was with Midway Hospital and Hamlin University as a nursing student." Shortly after that she moved to Sioux Falls where she worked for an orthodontist for about two years.
On Oct. 30, 1954, Daisy married Donald Bergjord in Luverne. He was six years older than Daisy and had served in the Korean War. They had three children: first came Jackie followed by David and then Blair.
Donald and Daisy farmed in the Toronto area until 1967. He then managed the Deuel County Cenex Fertilizer Plant, retiring in 1993. Meanwhile, Daisy was a stay-at-home mom until 1968, when she went to work at Good Samaritan nursing home in Clear Lake. She served as administrator for 17 of the 25 years she was there. "Good Sam was good to me," Daisy recalls.
During their retirement years they were "snowbirds" for about 17 years in the Southwest, spending some of those winters in St. George, Utah. Daisy and Donald, then 90, had lived in Toronto (South Dakota) before moving to Brookings. They had moved into StoneyBrook together, shortly before his death at age 90.
Daisy has 6 grandchildren — who, she proudly proclaims, "all went to college." Add to those 10 great-grandchildren.
Daisy is survived by; her three children, Jackie (Donnie) Pike, David (Mary) Bergjord and Blair (Colleen) Bergjord; her grandchildren, Jessie (Cody) Plueger, Blair (Brady) Hanna, Annie Bergjord, Luke (Samie) Bergjord, Lindsey (Scott Binger), Joey (Brittany) Bergjord; great-grandchildren, Lowyn, Wirth, Livvy and Beck Hanna, Banks and Briks Plueger, Brynn and Asher Binger, Lannie and Nova Bergjord; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marvel (Bing) Busse and husband, Donald.
