Curtis Eugene Nelson, age 94 of Brookings, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. on Monday, March 6 ^th at Eidsness Funeral Home.  Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 7 ^th at Abundant Life Church with a private family burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Curtis was born on September 30, 1928, in Brookings to Carl and Edna (Bower) Nelson.  He grew up in Brookings County and began to help on the farm at the age of six.  Curtis attended country school at District 82, and then returned to the farm, even helping combine this past fall.

On June 15, 1952, Curtis married Doris Atkins at First Lutheran Church in Brookings.  Together, they raised four children: Darrell, Greg, Darlis, and Todd.

Curtis was very involved with all aspects of farm life.  He served on the Trenton Township Board, Coop Board of Directors, and Cattlemen's Association.  Curtis was also very involved with his church throughout his life.

Survivors include his children, Greg (Carol) Nelson, Darlis Coleman, and Todd (Cheryl) Nelson; daughter-in-law, Darleen Nelson; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris in 2004; son, Darrell in 2021; son-in-law Kenneth Coleman; and his siblings, Alvin, Mildred, and Beulah.
