Coralyn James, age 90, of Faribault, MN, formerly of Brookings, died Monday, September 29, 2014, at District One Hospital in Faribault. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2014, at Eidsness Funeral Home. Visitations will be from 12 noon until the start of the funeral on Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home. Coralyn Marie Amidon was born on June 1, 1924, to Lee and Gertrude (Lowell) Amidon in Morgantown, West Virginia. She grew up in West Virginia, Minnesota, and Kentucky before moving to South Dakota. Coralyn graduated from Brookings High School. She then attended SDSU and graduated with her Bachelor's Degree. After graduation, Coralyn attended Dakota State where she received her Teacher's Certificate and later graduated with a Master's Degree from Emporia State University. Coralyn married Richard James on May 31, 1947, in Brookings. They were blessed with four daughters. The couple later ended their marriage. Richard died in 1983. Coralyn taught at Head Start and then worked as a secretary at SDSU in the extension office. Coralyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brookings. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, genealogy, and collecting items of all kinds. Survivors include four daughters: Anne (Fred) Grote Jr. of Texas, Sharon (Cleland) Micheel of Illinois, Jeanette (John) Carter of Kentucky, and Dorothy (Alan) Seaver of Minnesota; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Joy) Amidon of Vermont; two nieces, and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Ruth Amidon.
