Obituary

Cora Post, age 82, of Volga, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 1, 2005, at the Volga Christian Reformed Church, with interment in Trinity Cemetery at Volga. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Cornelia Averdena (Van Beek) Post was born May 23, 1922, near Estelline, South Dakota, to William and Hattie (Hoogeboom) Van Beek. She attended country school near Estelline through the eighth grade. On March 5, 1946, she married Jacob Post. The Posts farmed near Sinai. Her concern that no one ever go hungry led her to the Brookings Food Pantry, where she served for many years. When others wanted to thank her, she would respond Jesus said Feed my sheep, or its given to me to give to others. God gave Cora the strength to help others at the Food Pantry until the very end of her life. Visits by her children and grandchildren were the highlight of her life. They were always greeted with look who came to Grandmas house. Cora was a member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church. Besides her family she enjoyed her canaries and growing roses. Survivors include her husband, Jake, of Volga; nine children: Sid (Shirley) Post of Chili, Wisconsin, Betty (James) Halde of Sioux Falls, Marvin (Joyce) Post of Volga, Sylvia Misar of Oldham, Robert Post of Oldham, Joan (Robert) Olson of Volga, Carol (Greg) Bolstad of Sinai, David Post of Volga, and Dennis (Kerry) Post of Sinai; 25 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six sisters: Willie (Egbert) Kroll of Edgerton, Minnesota, Harriet (Clarence) Mast of Volga, Gert (John) Dykhouse of Volga, Viola (John) Brasttrom of Michigan, Geraldine (Alvin) Schmidt of White, and Jan Clapp of Volga; two brothers: Chuck (Norma) Van Beek of Lynden, Washington, and Bill (Sherry) Van Beek of Volga; and a brother-in-law, Alvin Starkenburg, of Bruce. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alice Starkenburg; an infant brother, Connie; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Post; and brothers-in-law, Hubert Clapp and John Lakos.
