Colesta Mannerud, 97, of Volga, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga and preceding services Thursday at the church. Colesta Lillian (Ishol) Mannerud was born September 28, 1905, near Chester, South Dakota, to Johannas O. and Marie Ishol. She was baptized in Hegge Lutheran Church near Colman, South Dakota, by Rev. Blillie and confirmed November 14, 1920, by Rev. Mannes in Lake Campbell Lutheran Church. At age 11, she moved with her family to a farm south of Volga. On December 21, 1932, Colesta married Clarence A. Mannerud at Huron, South Dakota. The couple lived in Volga until 1947 when they moved to a farm six miles south of Volga. Clarence died in 1951. Colesta moved back to Volga in 1956. She provided home health care for a few years, and worked in the veterinarians office for Dr. Jensen and Dr. Stenberg for 27 years. Colesta was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga. Survivors include a daughter, Nita Faye (William) Nelson, of Forestburg, South Dakota; four grandchildren: Jeff Carter, Jerome Carter, Julie Hemiller, and Kelly Neitzel; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Nona; two brothers; and two sisters.
