Clinton Berndt, age 77, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at his home near White. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the McKnight Community Hall in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials. Clinton Arthur Berndt was born May 12, 1935, at White, South Dakota, to Conrad and Lucy (Pinckau) Berndt. He attended country school and graduated from White High School in 1953. On June 27, 1958, he married Ruth Hofman at Clear Lake, South Dakota. Clinton served in the South Dakota National Guard for several years. He farmed all his life south of White and was proud to raise Black Angus heifers. He served on the Sherman Township Board, was a member of the South Dakota Cattlemen's Association, and was a supporter of Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, collecting caps, and following his grandchildren's sports activities. He attended many parades and community dinners in the area. He annually hosted an ice cream social at his farm and played the role of Santa Claus during the Christmas season. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of White; five sons: Steven Berndt of Brandt, South Dakota, Jeffrey (Esther) Berndt of Wichita Falls, Texas, David (Dawnna) Berndt of White, Robert (Sheila) Berndt of White, and Chris (Karma) Berndt of White; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Myrtle McKinney, of White; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Merlyn McKinney.
