Obituary

Clifton Donald Christopherson, age 92, of Brookings, passed away Monday, July 13, 2020, at the Brookings Emergency Room. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 20, 2020, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.  The funeral will be live-streamed on the Church's website: https://mountcalvary1.org Visitation will be from 12 noon until 4:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 19, 2020, at Eidsness Funeral Home.

Clifton was born on February 27, 1928, to Ingbert and Minnie (Novick) Christopherson in Astoria, South Dakota. Cliff was raised on the farm in Brandt, South Dakota, and attended rural grade schools, graduating from Brandt High School in 1946.

Cliff worked in the winter months at John Morrell's in Sioux Falls, while farming with his father during the summer months. In March of 1951, Cliff was drafted into the Army, where he was stationed in Germany and worked as an instructor in the Ordinance School. Cliff served his country for two years before being honorably discharged in March of 1953. Following his discharge from the military, Cliff started working for the Frie Motor Company. On December 11, 1953, Cliff married the love of his life, Minerva Strohschein in Clear Lake, South Dakota. To this union, four children were born. They were married for 66 years.

Cliff worked at Le Fevre Motor Company, Berger Motor Company, Hoffelt Motor Company, Jerry's Tune Up, and Einspahr Auto Plaza, totaling 41 years with the Chrysler Corporation. After his retirement, Cliff worked for Syngenta Seeds in Brookings as seasonal help.

Throughout his life, Cliff held many interests, including hunting, fishing, and trap and skeet shooting. He particularly enjoyed any type of shooting sports. He was a member of the N.R.A., a founding member of Beacon Hill Rifle Range, the Pistol Club, the Brookings Gun Club, the America Legion, and was a long-time member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings.

Survivors include his wife, Minerva; four children, Glenda (Gary) Pederson, Jim Christopherson, Gary (Deb) Christopherson, and Dawn Peterson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lois (Leroy) Hamann and Helen Budahl; one sister-in-law, Mary Christopherson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Marlyn Christopherson; and one sister, Alona Schuers.

Memorials are preferred to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
