Clarice Bruns, age 87, of Hendricks, Minnesota, died Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the Hendricks Community Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Friday, December 2, 2011, at Singsaas Lutheran Church, rural Astoria, with interment at the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitations will be 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hendricks Nursing Home chapel. Clarice (Kirkvold) Bruns was born November 14, 1924, in Lake Hendricks Township, South Dakota, to Peder and Emma (Singsaas) Kirkvold. She attended country grade school in South Dakota, graduated from Hendricks High School in 1942, and graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1945, Clarice started working for the Hendricks Community Hospital and worked there for 27 years Clarice was married to Merlin Vick for several years and married John Bruns. They had a farm home by Elkton, South Dakota, and a summer home on Lake Hendrickis. Clarice worked for many years at the Hendricks Hospital. John died in 1987. Clarice moved to Brookings and then to the Hendricks Nursing Home. Clarice spent much of her spare time sewing. She made countless quilt-tops, and also did embroidery, crocheting, knitting, and hardanger. Survivors include a nephew, Brian Kirkvold, and his daughter, Jessica, of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Mavis Kirkvoldk of Hendricks; four grandsons, Bill Bruns of Brookings, Bob (Jony) Bruns of Tea, SD, Mark Bruns of Brookings and Adam (Sarah) Bruns of Elk City, OK; 11 great-grandchildren, Miranda Barton, Cassi Bruns, Tristen Bruns, Korbyn Bruns, Sladyn Bruns, Jayden Bruns, Jazy Bruns, Mark Bruns Jr, Irelynn Bruns, Gabe Bruns, & Oliver Bruns. She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Merlin Vick; husband, John Bruns, one niece, Jo Ann Kirkvold; a son-in-law Gerald Bruns and a grandson, Matthew Bruns. Her brother, Kermit Kirkvold, died November 28, 2011.
