Clare Kerr, 98, of Bruce, passed away on July 4, 2023, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the Sterling United Methodist Church in rural Brookings, SD at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow the service at the Sterling United Methodist Church Cemetery. A time of fellowship and lunch will follow burial at the Estelline American Legion in Estelline, SD. Visitation will be held the evening prior, Monday, July 10, 2023, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.
Clare Kerr was born on November 5, 1924, in Brookings, SD. Growing up in Eureka Township, Clare spent the majority of his life on the the farm. He attended country school throughout his grade school years, and graduated from Brookings High School. On February 13, 1947, Clare was united in marriage to Rita Mae Linneman in Estelline. Together they raised their family on a farm in the Bruce area, moving to Estelline in 1997. Rita passed away on October 14, 2016.
Clare was a farmer through-and-through, holding a special interest in his tractors (which were only red). He enjoyed collecting belt buckles, mainly the Hesston National Finals Rodeo Series. He greatly enjoyed spending any time tending to the farm. He enjoyed travelling the countryside checking the crops and livestock, and spotting an occasional pheasant. Clare especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Clare is survived by his children: Tom (Jill) Kerr, of Brookings, SD, Rick (special friend Rita Emmett) Kerr, of Bruce, SD; and Larry Kerr, of Bruce, SD; four grandchildren: James Kerr, of Brookings, SD, Joseph Kerr, of Brookings, SD, Chad (Carrie) Kerr, of Summerset, SD, and Tamara (Nick) Rice, of Cleveland, TN; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Marjorie (LeRoy) Warborg and Mary Linneman; two brothers-in-law, William (Bev) Linneman and Gary Linneman; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rita; his daughter, Linda; his siblings: Robert (Gen Kerr, LaVonne Van Deen, and Geraldine Leibsch; sisters-in-law Dorla (Les) Alseike, Joan Harrenga, and Donna (Lloyd) Shook, and brothers-in-law Lyle and Earl Linneman.
Memorial donations may be made to the Sterling United Methodist Church in Clare's memory.
