Clara Sando, age 89, of Brookings, died Monday, April 3, 2006, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 7, 2006, at Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto, South Dakota, with interment in the Toronto Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Clara Lenore (Olson) Sando was born May 26, 1916, on a farm near Bruce, South Dakota, to Thomas and Matilda (Bredaken) Olson. She grew up near Bruce and attended rural schools in the area. On July 26, 1934, she married Edwin P. Sando at Toronto, South Dakota. They were farmers and raised their family on a farm south of Toronto. In 1960 they moved into Brookings. Clara worked at cleaning homes for various people. She was later employed in the Brookings High School lunch room for 17 years, before retiring. She was known for her cooking, baking, and sharing in her earlier years. She was especially known for her lefse. She enjoyed the many activities and friends she made while living in the Heritage Apartments. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Holter, of Isanti, Minnesota; grandsons: Rodney (Kathy) Holter of Isanti, Bradley (Patty) Holter of Faribault, Minnesota, Darwin (Sue) Holter of Circle Pines, Minnesota, and Steven (Kim) Holter of Isanti; eleven great-grandchildren: Amanda, Nathan, Timothy, Thomas, Mikayla, Curtis, Joshua, Kent, Tara, Travis, and Kursti; one great-great-granddaughter, Ava Rose; a sister, Elsie Moeller, of Estelline, South Dakota; three sisters-in-law: Doris Olson and Selma Texley, both of Brookings, and Judith Sando of Hendricks, Minnesota; and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, on October 23, 1997; two sons, Donald Alan and Thomas Erin; a son-in-law, Leon Holter; parents; and brothers and sisters.
